
1. Strategic Planning and Review Workshops
The
major activities include analysis of client situation, identification of their
needs, setting of workshop objectives, design of the workshop procedures and
steps, facilitation of the workshop in highly participatory and professional
manner and reporting.
All such workshops use highly participatory methods and tools depending on
the concrete situation. Visuals are an integral part of such workshops. Cards
and chart technique, multimedia, buzz groups, question and answer, group works
and presentations are some of the methods/tools widely used.
HURDEC has successfully carried out around 1000 Strategic Planning and Review
Workshops over the years.
2. Policy Study, Evaluation and Assessment
The service includes analysis of sectoral or crosscutting policies and strategies
in the light of some development goals, evaluation of projects and programs,
participatory and rapid appraisals, management assessment, management audits
and other studies. Assisting the client organizations for improving their
services and accountability and for designing effective programs/projects
often underlie such services.
The approaches and tools selected depend on the context, situation and preference
of the client and other ground realities. PRA, PLA and other participatory
tools are very often used.
HURDEC has provided more than 85 services to several national and international
clients over the years.
3. Professional Staff Recruitment and Selection
The major activities include job analysis; vacancy ads design; development
of tools for assessing the applications and short-listing of the applicants;
design of tools for candidates’ assessment; conducting written/practical
exams, group dynamics sessions and individual interviews; and finally recommending
the most appropriate candidates.
The approaches and tools selected depend on the context, situation and preference
of the client and other ground realities.
HURDEC has successfully carried out over hundred professional staff recruitment
and selection assignment mainly for several development agencies and initiatives
supported by them in Nepal. Some of the development agencies include DfID,
UNDP, USAID, GTZ, SDC, Plan International, SNV and others. HURDEC has also
offered these services to the private and public sector agencies. Most of
the services have been for mid-level and top-level management positions.
4. Organization Development, Capacity Building and Training
The major activities in general include situation analysis (needs assessment),
options analysis, and development of interventional package, its implementation,
monitoring and review. Training of trainers/facilitators, leadership and communication
training, training in cross-cultural sensitivity, teambuilding workshops,
visioning exercises, on-the-job coaching and exposure visits are some of the
major areas within this service. Another area is organizational/institutional
analysis and restructuring.
HURDEC uses a wide variety of appropriate approaches, methods and tools depending
on the situation and the ground realities. SWOT analysis, goal-oriented project
planning, appreciative inquiry, perceptual mapping and analysis, team strengths
audit, personality style mapping, communication style mapping, problem solving
style mapping, and leadership/supervision style mapping are some of the tools
widely used.
Over the years, HURDEC has provided more than 700 training programs and around
40 Organizational Development support services to several national and international
clients.
5. Program/Project Implementation Support
Group formation and facilitation, focus group discussions, orientation programs,
conflict resolution, technical and managerial assistance, situation-specific
training and coaching are some of the major activities.
Providing management and professional support to development initiatives is
another area. The exact type of support varies depending on the client need
and situation. Design, development, testing, implementing and replicating
food aided infrastructure development activities characterized by high levels
of transparency, local participation and efficiency, and low levels of resource
misuses and leakages has been one area under this service. Another area has
been social organizational support to local communities and bodies in suspension
bridge building program characterized by high level of local participation
and ownership.
